Written & Directed by Gabriel Grilli
Syracuse Stage 2001
This workshop production developed through collaboration with six actors. The play consisted of text, movement, puppetry, and cinematic devices with contemporary music. In it, we ask essential questions about existence, faith, chance, and character, guided by five New Yorkers whose lives are curiously intertwined. A cinematic work with theatricality and humor in the vein of Robert Lepage and Howard Korder.

Romeo & Juliet
by William Shakespeare
Adapted & Directed by Gabriel Grilli
Syracuse Stage 2001
To re-imagine this classic, I mined the play's raw essence in a production highlighting the condition of youth, the presence of the elements earth, air, water and fire, & the significance of ritual. Verona was depicted as a Middle-Eastern city of wealth and beauty, isolated from the outside world by a vast desert. The design featured regionally inspired clothing amidst a simple environment of canvas, stone, steel, water, and wood.

Inspired by Camus’ novel The Stranger, this tragicomic spectacle examines contemporary society through the lens of Camus’ philosophy of absurdism. We explored Camus' life, work, and legacy through movement, dance, song, text and puppetry in the dream theatre tradition. Windows was developed through physical and vocal improvisations, Viewpoints, mask studies, movement études, and other exercises with over thirty singers, dancers, actors and musicians.
